Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 medium onion, very finely chopped
  • 1-1/2 lbs. ground chuck
  • 1/2 cup parsley, finely minced (loosely packed)
  • 1 scant tsp. dried mint flakes or 1 tbsp. fresh mint, very finely chopped
  • 1egg
  • 1 clove garlic, very finely chopped
  • 1-1/2 tsp. salt
  • Generous pinch ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. brown sugar
  • Oregano or finely minced parsley to garnish
Recipe
  1. In a large bowl, soak the breadcrumbs in the milk. Mix well and add onion, meat, parsley, mint, egg, garlic, salt and pepper.
  2. Mix thoroughly and form into small meatballs.
  3. Heat enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet and brown the meatballs on all sides, cooking them thoroughly.
  4. Spoon the meatballs onto a heated serving dish.
  5. Combine the vinegar and sugar in the skillet and stir over a low heat to incorporate the drippings into the sauce and completely dissolve the sugar. Pour this sauce over the meatballs, garnish with oregano or parsley, and serve.
